A BRIEF HISTORY
Lighthouse Gospel Mission & Faith Home
It all began on December 12, 1952 after the radical conversion of J.A. Lennard, He began preaching on the back of a trailer in the skid row area of Tampa. He caught the eyes and ears of an influential attorney. Albert D'Arpa, who was drawn to the voice of this zealous preacher. D'Arpa helped him buy his first building and the Lighthouse Gospel Mission was launched into reaching the homeless and the outcast. Through the years the ministry grew and in 1961 Rev. Lennard purchased a tract of land in what was then the real woods in Riverview, FL. The idea was to establish a facility to bring men who gave their life to Jesus at the mission in Tampa to a place in the country to concentrate on the Bible away from the familiar influences and temptations in Tampa. The first home for alcoholics was started in Riverview, and the foundation was laid for a bright future of reaching thousands with the transforming power of the Gospel (Good News) of Jesus Christ.
Through the years the homeless were sheltered, the worthless were given their worth in Jesus Christ, the sick were visited and prayed for. The incarcerated were given hope. The hungry and needy were fed and clothed. Children from many broken homes had been shown love and acceptance and marriages restored, lives changed, children received their fathers once again, mothers new sons, wives new husbands and society productive, moral and faithful men.
In 1991 through a set up from God, Pastor Hank Furr joined the Board of Directors and one month later was asked to assume leadership of the ministry. Since that time the foundation that had been laid was cultivated and the Faith Home ministries as they are today were birthed through a vision that Pastor Furr received for restoration of lives while he himself was restored at a ministry in Saginaw, MI years before today.
